Er heeft op station Leidsche Rijn vlak na de opening in 2013 al eens een tijdje lang een cache gelegen. Deze heb ik toen geprobeerd te vinden, maar zonder succes, dit was in 2016. Dit was toen ik nog niet in Nederlands grootste Vinexwijk woonde, maar toevallig eens op bezoek was in Utrecht. Ondanks de DNF was dit toch een eerste kennismaking met de wijk, waar zo veel is veranderd door de jaren heen. Vijf jaren later studeer ik in de Domstaden woon ik in Leidsche Rijn. Opeens moest ik weer eens denken aan de niet gevonden cache die er vroeger lag, en waarom er eigenlijk nooit meer een nieuwe is geplaatst. Het lijkt misschien een simpele voorstadshalte, maar het is wel de poort naar een bijzondere wijk in Nederland. Daarom heb ik hier nu een tweede versie van de eerdere cache nieuw leven ingeblazen.

Station Utrecht Leidsche Rijn werd geopend op 8 juni 2013. Het is hiermee momenteel nog steeds het tiende nieuwste treinstation van Nederland, en het tweede nieuwste station van Utrecht. In eerste instantie konden er slechts 2 treinen per uur per richting stoppen, in plaats van de beoogde vier. Pas in december 2016 was de capaciteit voldoende voor een kwartiersdienstregeling naar zowel Woerden als Utrecht. Naast Woerden kan men nog zonder overstappen doorreizen naar Den Haag Centraal, ’s-Hertogenbosch en Tiel. Het nieuw geopende station bewijst een succes te zijn, en was in 2018 voor het tweede jaar op rij het station met de grootste stijging in aantal reizigers, namelijk een kleine 3000 per dag.

Ook het busstation naast het treinstation is tegenwoordig een belangrijk knooppunt binnen het Utrechtse busnetwerk. Twee van de lijnen van het in december 2019 ingevoerde U-Link-netwerk stoppen op station Leidsche Rijn. Dit zijn hoogfrequente bussen op drukke lijnen die vaak overdag elke 10 minuten rijden. Naast het treinaanbod rijden er hierdoor ook eens 12 bussen per uur richting Utrecht Centraal. Verder bestaan er directe busverbindingen naar Maarssen, Nieuwegein, Houten en andere delen van de stad Utrecht.

De cache: Het station is op sommige tijdstippen een drukbezochte plek. Ondanks dat de cache in een relatief afgelegen hoek van het stationsterrein ligt, is voorzichtigheid geboden.Gebruik daarom de hint om duidelijk te krijgen waar je moet zoeken, zodat je niet onnodig opvallend te werk hoeft te gaan. Door al het ijzerwerk en de tunnel wil de GPS hier nogal zwabberen.De cache ligt niet op de perrons en al helemaal niet in het spoorterrein. Je hebt geen ticket nodig om de cache te kunnen vinden.

Er is een spoilerfoto aanwezig voor als je er met de hint en GPS nog steeds niet uitkomt. Het is natuurlijk aan jezelf, maar het verzoek is wel om deze niet direct erbij te pakken. Want hoe leuk is het zoeken dan nog?

Leidsche Rijn railway station

There has been a cache at Leidsche Rijn station just after the opening in 2013. I tried to find it, but without success. This was when I did not yet live in the largest Vinex district in the Netherlands, but just happened to be visiting Utrecht. Despite the DNF, this was still a first acquaintance with the district, where so much has changed over the years. Five years later I study in Utrechtand live in Leidsche Rijn. Suddenly I had to think again about the unfound cache that used to be there, and why a new one has never been placed. It may seem like a simple suburban stop, but it is the gateway to a special neighbourhood in the Netherlands. That is why I have now revived a second version of the earlier cache.

Utrecht Leidsche Rijn railway station was opened on 8 June 2013. This still makes it the tenth newest train station in the Netherlands, and the second newest station in Utrecht. Initially, only 2 trains per hour per direction could stop, instead of the intended four. It was not until December 2016 that the capacity was sufficient for a 15-minutes headway to both Woerden and Utrecht. In addition to Woerden, it is still possible to travel on to The Hague, 's-Hertogenbosch and Tiel without changing trains. The newly opened station is proving to be a success, and in 2018, for the second year in a row, it was the station with the largest increase in passenger numbers, i.e. just under 3,000 per day.

The bus station next to the train station is now also an important junction within the Utrecht bus network. Two of the lines of the U-Link network, introduced in December 2019, will stop at Leidsche Rijn station. These are high-frequency buses on busy lines that often run every 10 minutes during the day. As a result, in addition to the train services, there are also 12 buses an hour to Utrecht Central Station. There are also direct bus connections to Maarssen, Nieuwegein, Houten and other parts of the city of Utrecht.

The cache: At most times the station is a busy place. Despite the cache being in a rather remote corner of the station area, please use stealth! So please use the hint to get a clear idea of where to look, so you don't have to be unnecessarily conspicuous. The cache is not located on the platforms and especially not on the railway tracks. A ticket is not necessary to find the cache.
