Hoe is dat, de hele dag op een stoel zitten, bewoners en bezoekers groeten en professioneel voor je uitkijken? De meesten van ons zullen zich die vraag wel eens gesteld hebben bij het zien van een portier. In Nederland zie je ze minder vaak in appartementengebouwen dan in Barcelona, waar The Interior City gefilmd werd. De makers observeren de soms magistrale entrees van luxe appartementencomplexen waarvan de ontwerper met alles rekening lijkt te hebben gehouden, behalve met de portier. Een van hen vertelt over zijn onvergetelijke romance met een Saoediër, die jaren standhield tot hij een foto van een traditioneel Saoedisch huwelijk ontving. Een ander concludeert dat we zelfs een kat kammen als we maar verveeld genoeg zijn. En een derde onderhoudt in een achterkamertje een online radiostation. De stilte en de kunstmatigheid van de situaties waarin de portiers elke dag urenlang hun werk doen, reflecterend, mediterend misschien, illustreert hoe de wereld van alledag ongelofelijk vreemd kan zijn.

Born in the Basque Country in 1988, he graduated in Arts from the University of the Basque Country and furthered his studies in visual arts and filmmaking at the Art and Design University of Cluj-Napoca (Romania), Universidade de Vigo (Galicia), and the Autonomous University of Barcelona (Catalonia). He has participated in renowned programs like IDFAcademy and Berlinale Talents. His works have been featured in several exhibitions and have won awards or been screened at festivals such as DOK Leipzig, IDFA, Punto de Vista, Málaga Festival, Tirana IFF, Guadalajara International Film Festival, Beijing International Short Film Festival, Oberhausen, and Filmadrid. He also worked as an editor on Frederico Lobo's film When the Land Runs Away, which is included in this year's BISFF. Some of his previous films, such as The Interior City, Orbainak (The Scars), and In Ictu Oculi, have also been shown in previous editions of this festival.
